How to setup Mac Mail on OSX to connect to IMAP and SMTP authenticated sending.

In Mail go to the Mail menu and “preferences”.
Under Accounts -> Account Information, click on the “Server Settings” button underneath the outgoing server.
Set the server name to mail.gwork.org.
Set the Server port to 465.
Give it your username and password.
Tick the box next to “Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)”.
Click OK

Then…
Click the Advanced tab.
Next to Port set 993 for IMAP and tick “Use SSL”.
Close preferences and quit Mail.

Then (this is important)…

Download the SSL gwork-ca cert from the gwork site and save
it to the desktop.
Double click the file to import it.
This should open “Keychain access”.
(If it doesn’t you can get to that app from the applications/utilities
folder. Go to File -> Import… Select the Gwork-CA.crt file on the
desktop and then do as above.)

(IMPORTANT) select the keychain X509Anchors from the drop down list
above the OK button.
Click OK and enter your OSX user account password if asked.

Open Mail again and go to the window menu and bring up the “Mail
Connection Doctor”. It should tell you if there’s a problem connecting
and why. Also you may want to test it by sending yourself an email.

You should now be able to send and receive mail.

Server encryption

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008 | help | No Comments

How GWork helps to keep your data safe.

All encrypted channels are performed using an SSL certificate which has been generated specifically for the GWork service. You may receive certificate warning messages in your browser or mail client. Please see the following pages to download and install the gwork-ca.

Please be aware that the transmission of passwords in clear text over the Internet is dangerous and should be avoided at all costs to ensure the security and integrity of your personal data. GWork takes the protection of your data very seriously and it is part of the acceptable use policy in the Terms and Conditions that all users adhere to restrictions applied to the service.

Encryption of data and the transmission of passwords is performed wherever possible, but it is ultimately your responsibility to protect access to your data. Please be mindful when choosing a password and never store it where others can access it.
